You thinking of travel to Mexico, but the different voltages and sockets can often be Confusing when planning on traveling to another country especially you never visited before. You
The Electricity In the Mexico :
- Mexico wall socket Voltage: 127V
- The standard Mexico frequency: 60 HZ
- Mexico Power Plug Types: A and B
The power plugs and sockets in Mexico
The power plugs and sockets in Mexico are of type A and B. Check out the following pictures:
- Type A: This plug type is mainly used in Central and North America, China, and Japan this socket only works with plug A.
- Type B: Is like type A but with an extra for grounding, and this socket also works with plug A.
The voltage and frequency in The Mexico
The standard voltage in Mexico is 127 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. if the standard voltage in your country is the range of 110 – 127 V as is in the united state, Canada and most South American countries, you can use your electric appliances in Mexico. And be careful if you bring appliances from Japan (100 V).
And if the standard voltage in your country is between 220 – 240 V as is in the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, you will need a voltage converter in Mexico. Otherwise , you can carefully try to use your appliances in Mexico without a converter as some say , the most likely they won’t be damaged . But if you don’t want to take any chances, use a converter .
In other hand, if the frequency in Mexico (60 Hz) differs from the one in your country, it is not advised to use your Equipment. But you could -at your own risk- try to use the appliance for a short time if there is no voltage difference.
The converter and transformer in Mexico
The standard voltage can differ from country to another, you may need to use a voltage converter or transformer whilst in Mexico. And if the standard frequency is different, the normal operation of an electrical appliance may also be affected. For instance, a 50Hz clock may run faster on a 60Hz electricity supply.
And most voltage converters and transformers come supplied with plug adaptors, so you may not need to buy a separate travel adaptor.
The converters and transformers perform a similar function, but their applications differ. Converters are typically used with equipment that operate for a short duration (1-2hours), whilst most transformers can be used alongside appliances that operate continuously.
